Concrete work around the town of Woodstock
Woodstock covers a lot more ground than the hamlet most people picture. On our jobs here we go from tight lots near the shops in the hamlet's commercial core to houses set up along mountain roads. Older homes, studios and newer builds are all mixed in, along with plenty of gravel driveways that somebody's finally ready to pave. It's a short drive from our base in Kingston, and we do the same kind of work up in Saugerties and across the river in Rhinebeck.
Most jobs here are shaped by the ground. When a lot slopes, I look at how much we'll have to dig out, how the base gets packed so it won't settle, and where the water goes once a slab is in its way. Those three things, plus how easily a truck can reach your spot and the finish you pick, are what move both the price and the schedule, and you get your own figure in writing after I've walked the site with you.
Concrete services for Woodstock homes
Most calls we get from Woodstock are for driveways that climb a slope, steps up to the front door and patios set into a hillside yard. Where the ground drops off, concrete retaining walls hold the soil back so a patio or parking spot sits on level footing. Here's the work we do here.
- Concrete driveway building
- Concrete patio construction
- Stamped concrete services
- Concrete sidewalk building
- Garage floor concrete
- Decorative concrete
- Concrete retaining walls
- Concrete floor installation
- Concrete pool decks
- Concrete steps construction
- Slab foundation building
- Foundation installation
- Concrete parking lot building
- Concrete footings
- Foundation raising
- Concrete cutting
What mountain ground means for your concrete
Woodstock sits at the edge of the Catskills, with Overlook Mountain inside the town of Woodstock, so a lot of the yards we work in slope one way or another. On a hillside lot the subgrade, which is the ground the slab sits on, can go from firm to soft between the top of a driveway and the bottom. I want to know that before we set a single form.
On a slope, the water decides how long a slab lasts. Before we pour, I check where the runoff comes from and where it wants to go, and then we pitch the slab away from your house so water can't pool against the foundation. We dig out the soft stuff and pack a stone base in layers. Raking the base level isn't enough, because a raked base settles with the dirt under it and the concrete cracks right along with it.
You'll deal with the same person from the estimate to the pour, and you'll know what's going under your slab and why before we start.

Woodstock concrete questions, answered
These are the questions Woodstock homeowners ask me most before we pour. If yours isn't here, call (845) 303-8582 and we'll talk it through.
How much does a new concrete driveway cost in Woodstock, NY?
The price comes down to the driveway's size, how much digging and base your ground needs, how easily we can get a truck in, and the finish you pick. If the budget's tight, I'd go plainer on the finish before I'd skimp on the base, because a bad base can't be fixed without tearing the slab out. Your written estimate gives you the number.
Will my new concrete driveway crack like the old one did?
Concrete can still crack, but we work to keep the cracks small and put them where we choose. We pack the base so the slab doesn't settle. Where the job calls for it, we add rebar, which is steel that holds the slab together. Soon after the pour, before the slab picks its own spots, we cut control joints, which are shallow grooves that give the concrete a straight line to crack along.
How long before I can drive on a new concrete driveway?
You can usually walk on new concrete after a day or two, but you'll want to keep cars off it for about a week. That wait is called curing, the time concrete needs to gain strength, and driving on it too early can mark or crack the surface. I'll tell you the wait for your slab before we pour.
Can you pour a concrete driveway on a steep lot in Woodstock?
Most sloped driveways can be done in concrete, but the prep matters more than it does on flat ground. We dig out and pack the base, pitch the slab so water runs off instead of toward your house, and give it a broom finish, a light texture that gives tires and boots grip. Where the ground drops away beside the driveway, a retaining wall can keep the edge from washing out.
Is Bearsville part of the town of Woodstock?
Yes, Bearsville is a hamlet in the town of Woodstock. It sits along Route 212, just west of the hamlet of Woodstock, inside Catskill State Park. If your house is in Bearsville, it's part of the town this page covers, so give us a call about your driveway, patio or steps.
Where is Woodstock Town Hall and what's its phone number?
Woodstock Town Hall, the town's local government office, is at 45 Comeau Dr., Woodstock, NY 12498, and its listed number is (845) 679-2113. Before your job starts, I find out which office covers your address, and if your job needs a permit, we take care of the application with you.
