Concrete work across Rhinebeck, Town and Village
Rhinebeck is really two places for us. In the Village, houses sit close to the street, with short driveways, front walks and street trees along the sidewalk. Out in the Town, the lots open up, and you get long driveways, farm fields, wooded roads and houses set well back from the road.
We're based in Kingston, just across the Hudson, and we do the same work back home in Kingston and down the west side of the river in Highland. In the Village, a job is usually about tight access and fitting new concrete to old steps, walks and curbs. Out in the Town, it's more often about length, where the water runs off the land, and a base that has to carry a truck for years.
What we build for Rhinebeck homes
Most Rhinebeck calls are for driveways, walks and steps that have sunk, cracked or started pooling water, plus patios out back on the bigger Town lots. We also pour slabs and do concrete floor installation for garages, outbuildings and basements, where a level, well-drained base matters more than anything on top.

Village or Town decides who reviews your job
The first thing I ask on a Rhinebeck call is whether your house sits in the Village, because the Village of Rhinebeck is its own municipality inside the Town, with its own building office. Addresses outside it fall under the Town Building Department, which issues building permits there. Water service can differ inside and outside the Village, too, so before we dig I want to know where your lines run.
That split also shapes the schedule. In the Village, some jobs go before the Planning Board before a permit is applied for, and after the pour the slab needs its curing time, the wait while it hardens, before you use it. The price moves with the size, any old concrete to break out and how much base your ground needs.
In Rhinebeck, you get the same person at your estimate and on your job, and a straight explanation of the base, drainage and timing under your concrete.

Rhinebeck concrete questions, answered
Here's what Rhinebeck homeowners ask us before a pour. If yours isn't here, call (845) 303-8582 and I'll talk it through with you.
Which office handles my building permit in Rhinebeck, NY?
Village of Rhinebeck addresses go to the Village's Building, Planning, and Zoning Department, and every other address goes to the Town's Building Department. We find out which one covers you, and when your job needs a permit we take care of the application with you. In the Village, you fill out an authorization form so we can work with the department directly.
Does exterior work on a historic home in Rhinebeck Village need Planning Board review?
Yes, if your home is in the Village's historic district and the job is new construction or a major exterior addition or change, it goes before the Planning Board before anyone applies for a building permit. The board checks the plans against the historic district zoning rules, so we plan around that review before we talk about a pour date.
Who approves pruning or removing a street tree by my house in Rhinebeck?
In the Village, you need an application to prune or remove a street tree on the public strip by the street, and it goes back to the Village Clerk. That can matter for a driveway apron or front walk, because roots can sit right where we'd dig, so I look at the trees when I come out for the estimate.
How much does a new concrete driveway cost in Rhinebeck?
Your price comes down to the slab's size and thickness, any old concrete to break out, the base work your ground needs and the finish you pick. If the budget's tight, I'd give up a fancy finish before I'd skimp on the base, because the base is what keeps a driveway from sinking. You get the figure in writing after I've seen the job.
Will my new concrete driveway in Rhinebeck crack like the old one?
Some hairline cracking is normal, but where it shows up and how bad it gets is mostly decided underneath. We dig out and pack the subgrade, the dirt the slab sits on, instead of raking it level, then cut control joints, shallow grooves that give cracks a straight place to form, and add rebar, steel that holds the pieces together.
How long before I can drive on a new concrete driveway?
You can usually walk on it within a few days and drive on it after a longer wait, because concrete keeps getting stronger as it cures. I'll give you the dates for your slab at the estimate, and we plan the pour so you're off the driveway for as short a stretch as we can.
